Frank Nappies are a pocket style of cloth nappy. They are made up of a waterproof outer shell, and a stay-dry layer of fabric with an opening at the back which forms a "pocket". The pocket allows you to customise the absorbency by adding more or fewer inserts depending on your baby's needs.

Our modern cloth nappies are designed to fit most babies from birth to toilet training (approximately 4kg -16.5kg). They have three rows of rise snaps to adjust the fit around the legs (many brands have only 2), allowing for a snug fit on newborn legs, and comfort for the chubbiest of thighs.

When you first purchase cloth nappies, whether they are made from synthetic or natural fibers, they may not be fully absorbent right out of the package. Some materials, especially bamboo, hemp, and cotton, need a few washes to break in and reach their maximum absorbency. Plus, new nappies may contain manufacturing residues like oils or chemicals, which can affect their performance. Prepping removes these residues and ensures your nappies absorb moisture effectively.

The number of cloth nappies you need depends on factors like your baby's age, if you are doing cloth full or part time, how often you're able to do laundry, and how many nappies you want to rotate through. Here’s a general guide:

• Newborn (0-6 months): 20-24 nappies. Newborns typically need around 10-12 nappy changes per day, so having a sufficient stash will help you avoid doing laundry every day.

• Older Babies (6-12 months): 15-20 nappies. As babies grow, they need fewer changes (around 8-10 per day), so you can get away with fewer nappies.

• Toddlers (12+ months): 12-15 nappies. Older babies and toddlers need around 6-8 nappy changes a day, so a smaller stash is sufficient.

Extra tips

• If you’re planning to wash every 2-3 days, aim for around 20-24 nappies to ensure you have enough while others are drying.
• Consider having a few extra nappieson hand for emergencies or to use if your laundry schedule gets delayed.
